Practical Workshop Facilitation Skills Certificate

Proven and practical workshop facilitation skills are critical if a facilitator is to effectively motivate learners, encourage participation and promote on-the job application of learning.

The Practical Workshop Facilitation Skills Certificate provides ample opportunity to exchange learning and facilitating ideas and experiences with other professionals. Through extensive group work and practice, participants demonstrate the 15 Key Behavioural Components identified and developed over twenty years by Winnipeg Transition Centre. At the completion of the session, each participant understands and has demonstrated the skills necessary to be an effective facilitator.

This five-day training is highly interactive, incorporates hands-on exercises, role-plays, as well as small and large group discussions.

How is this Different From Other Training?

  • Small class size (max 9) allows for one-to-one assistance and feedback
  • Resources used during lab can be easily implemented immediately afterwards
  • Facilitation issues are work shopped in multiple ways so each skill is not just recited, but integrated and learned
  • Peer-to-peer learning provides opportunity to learn from a wide-variety of skilled peer facilitators

Facilitating each day means participants have the opportunity to integrate feedback from presenters and peers in subsequent sessions

Certification - The Practical Workshop Facilitation Skills Certificate (PWFSC) is awarded jointly between the Winnipeg Transition Centre and University of Winnipeg Professional, Applied & Continuing Education (40 hour credit.)* and in Ontario awarded jointly with Humber College and the WTC.

 Participant Feedback:

"I took away a lot of information from this facilitation workshop. Some of the knowledge that really helped me was relating the topics to the 15 behavioural facilitation components. This caused me to view our current practices and how we use these components as well as how others can be brought out more clearly in our current sessions. Also, this has allowed me to think about future training for our organization and how to better shape and create sessions to get the best possible results for the people involved."

"The greatest benefit to me from attending this workshop was gaining knowledge. Knowledge about what makes a good facilitator. Knowledge about how I can apply tools. I was given time to practice lesson planning. I learned what my strengths and weaknesses were as a facilitator. By giving constructive feedback to my peers, I was able to learn from them and their experiences too. In five days I learned how to stay off the stage, give positive reinforcement and much, much more! Whether you are a seasoned facilitator or a novice, you will come away from this workshop with more knowledge, self-awareness and tools you can use right away."
